5. Learnt to use Github to temporarily host my site
6. Learnt the basics of HTML & CSS on W3 schools
7. Started coding the front page, consulting W3, Quora & Youtube for help. This was my first attempt.
8. Second attempt. Placing items where I wanted them to be involved manipulating margins, widths, floats, displays – far more challenging than I anticipated.
9. Searched for a way to embed my projects to make the website interactive. Settled on Trinket.io bc of it’s simplicity.
10. Coded About page using FontAwesome in-line icons. Struggled with the stars bc FontAwesome only allows icons before text, not after it
11. Coded up the individual project pages. Yikes –– an instance of messed up CSS
12. Coded some more. Learnt about buttons, hover effects, tables, lists, slideshows, borders, vertical text ++
13. Made design tweeks based on input from friends & family
EXPERIENCE SUMMARY: When I started this project, I knew zilch about web development. I was so clueless that when I learnt that adding .html to a text edit file make it opens in a web browser like any old website, I was in total in awe.
The learning curve was steep with many small things to account for like opening the website on different devices and browsers with varying screen sizes, placing content with the correct spacing and margins, and using aesthetic designs/colors + countless other ‘strugglz’.
However, with lots of help from online resources recommended to me by upperclassmen, like W3 schools & Quora, I was able to put something together that I am proud of..... for now.
